GrassCloth Wallpaper Hanging - Installation
Grass cloth is a breeze to install if done right.
There are a few basics that separate basic grass cloth jobs from great ones.
1) Keep it clean.
Adhesive on the face will stain if left to dry, but small amounts of blotting will not cause harm in most cases. Test a small scrap by smearing with a little paste and blotting clean.
See if there is a residual stain, or if the fibers loosen.

2) Engineer the area to avoid small strips. For example if the wall to be covered is 10 feet wide,
and your grass cloth is a normal 36" width; trim each piece for the wall 30".
10 feet = 120" - 120 divided by 36 inches wide pieces = 3.33 pieces.
Round that up to the next whole number, 4.
120" wall width divided by 4 pieces = 30" trimmed width per piece.
This gives a paneled look to the room, and avoids little unsightly pieces going onto corners.
3) Always paste grass by hand, after trimming to desired width. Some prefer to moisten the back with an atomizer bottle or sponge, and paste the wall. Either technique will work.
4) Use blank stock, a blank stock job is effectively seamless and therefore always better.
5) Try pasting the walls with heavy duty non staining adhesive by brush along the top of the wall,
bottom of wall and along windows casings and door casings. Let it tack up and then proceed to paste and hang your sheets. Grass cloth can curl up along trimmed edges and this will help it to lay down.
Also only use #12 razor blades because #9 blades can skip across the fibers of the grass cloth while trimming.

6) Be careful washing ceilings, base and trim. Excess water will stain the grass.
These are the basics of grass cloth. It goes fast and once you get your technique, it's a pretty easy day.
Have Fun!!!
